GrowKeep ("we", "us", or "our") is developed by Figrski Technology LLC. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data when you use the GrowKeep app ("App").
1. Information We Collect
We collect only the information necessary to provide the App's features:
- Account information: your email address and first name, provided during sign-up.
- Plant and garden data: plant names, types, location descriptions, notes, care dates, and garden names you enter in the App.
- Care logs: log entry types, notes, and timestamps you record.
- Reminders: reminder types, frequencies, and schedules you configure.
- Photos: images you choose to attach to plants, gardens, and log entries. Photos are uploaded to secure cloud storage.
- Location. If you choose "Use my location" during sign-up or in Settings, the App requests your device's location permission and reads your precise GPS coordinates (latitude and longitude). We store these coordinates on your account, together with a place name derived from them and — for users in the United States — your postal (ZIP) code. Granting location access is optional: you can decline and type a location instead, or leave it blank. See Section 2 for what the coordinates are used for.
- Growing-zone and frost data: your USDA hardiness zone and average frost dates, derived from the location above and stored on your account.
- Plant and garden location descriptions: free-text descriptions you type (e.g., "Back garden"), which are separate from device location.
- AI conversation history: questions you ask and responses received in the AI advisor feature. Your plant or garden profile data — including your stored location name, hardiness zone and frost dates — is included in AI requests so that answers can be specific to your plants and your climate.
- Usage data: monthly AI query counts used to enforce free-tier limits.
- Device token: a Firebase Cloud Messaging token used to deliver push notification reminders. This is stored securely and used solely for sending care reminders.
- Subscription status: your current subscription tier (free or premium) and expiry date, synced from Apple's App Store via RevenueCat.
- Usage and crash data: if you leave "Share usage & crash data" enabled (Settings → Data & Privacy), the App records which features you use — for example that a plant was added, a care log was saved, or an AI question was asked — along with crash and error reports. These records describe actions, never their content: your plant names, notes, photos, questions and email address are never included. Each is tagged with your account ID and your plan (free or premium) so we can tell whether a problem affects everyone or only some accounts. You can turn this off at any time, and turning it off stops collection on that device immediately.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and operate the App's core features (plant tracking, care logging, reminders).
- To send push notifications for care reminders you have configured.
- To power the AI Plant Advisor by sending your plant or garden profile data to our AI provider (Anthropic) via a secure Cloud Function. AI queries are not used to train AI models.
- To manage your subscription and enforce free-tier limits.
- To allow you to retrieve your data across devices.
- To find and fix crashes, and to understand which features are actually used, so we know what to improve. We do not use this data for advertising, we do not use it to build a profile of you, and the App contains no advertising identifier and no cross-app tracking.
How we use your location. Your location is used only to make plant advice match your climate. Specifically:
- Your coordinates are converted into a readable place name (e.g., "Athens, Georgia") on your device, using the operating system's own geocoding service.
- Your ZIP code is sent to phzmapi.org to look up your USDA plant hardiness zone.
- Your coordinates are sent to Apple Weather (Apple's WeatherKit service) to check overnight low temperatures and local temperature history, so the App can warn you before a frost and estimate your area's typical frost dates.
- Your place name, hardiness zone and frost dates are included in AI Advisor requests, so its advice fits your climate and season.
We do not track your location in the background, do not build a location history, and do not use your location for advertising. Location is read only when you tap "Use my location".
We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell your data to third parties.
3. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored using Google Firebase services (Firestore, Firebase Storage, Firebase Auth), hosted on Google Cloud infrastructure. Photos are stored in Firebase Storage. All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Access to your data is controlled by Firebase security rules that restrict reads and writes to your own account only.
AI queries are processed by Anthropic's Claude API via a secure server-side Cloud Function. Your data is never sent directly from the app to the AI provider.
4. Third-Party Services
GrowKeep uses the following third-party services:
- Google Firebase (Auth, Firestore, Storage, Cloud Functions, Cloud Messaging, and — unless you turn it off — Analytics and Crashlytics) — Privacy Policy
- Anthropic (Claude AI API) — Privacy Policy
- RevenueCat (subscription management) — Privacy Policy
- Apple App Store (payment processing) — Privacy Policy
- Apple Weather (WeatherKit; frost forecasts and temperature history; receives your coordinates) — Data Sources
- phzmapi.org (USDA hardiness zone lookup; receives your ZIP code) — Website
Your device's operating system also performs the conversion of coordinates into a place name; that request is handled by your device vendor (for example, Apple) under its own privacy policy.
5. Data Retention
Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account (available in Settings → Account → Delete account), all associated data — including plant profiles, gardens, care logs, reminders, photos, and AI conversation history — is permanently deleted from our systems.
6. Your Rights
- Access and correction: you can view and edit your data directly within the App.
- Deletion: you can delete your account and all associated data at any time via Settings → Account → Delete account.
- Data portability: you can export all of your data as a JSON file at any time, on any plan, via Settings → Data & Privacy → Download my data.
- Usage and crash data: you can turn off "Share usage & crash data" at any time in Settings → Data & Privacy. Deleting your account also clears the analytics identifiers held on your device.
7. Children's Privacy
GrowKeep is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
